Operational Value

From Repetitive Manual Checks to Automated RFID Confirmation

The RLI-8dBi is designed for recurring vehicle, access and logistics checkpoints where the same identify, validate and respond sequence would otherwise require repeated operator checks.

Manual

Manual Identification Checkpoint

Repeated action for every vehicle, asset or shipment

Operator manually checking and confirming a vehicle, asset or shipment at a controlled checkpoint
01Stop and identify
02Check or enter data
03Confirm manually

More repeated interaction, slower confirmation and more opportunities for delayed or incomplete checkpoint records.

RFID

Automated RFID Checkpoint

Repeatable trigger, read and response sequence

RLI-8dBi integrated RFID reader automatically identifying a tagged vehicle, asset or shipment at a controlled checkpoint
01Detect
02Read
03Validate
04Respond
05Record
Outcome Less repeated identification, faster checkpoint confirmation and more consistent RFID event capture.

Operational improvements depend on the complete deployment, including tag selection, read-zone validation, host software, process rules and user adoption. Quantified time, accuracy or labor savings should be published only when supported by project data.

Good Reasons

Why Choose the RLI-8dBi Integrated RFID Reader?

Four product-level reasons help system integrators determine whether this medium- to long-range integrated RFID reader matches the required lane, checkpoint, regional frequency and control workflow.

01

Integrated 8 dBi Circular Antenna

The reader engine and 8 dBi circularly polarized antenna are combined in one IP65 enclosure for a self-contained fixed checkpoint.

02

Medium- to Long-Range Checkpoint Coverage

A typical read range of up to 10 m supports vehicle lanes, access points and logistics gates when the tag and site conditions are validated.

03

Industrial Trigger and Control

Two optocoupler inputs receive external signals, while two relay outputs return identification or validation results to compatible field devices.

04

Regional Frequency and Connectivity Options

Configure the operating frequency for regional requirements and select the required host communication, with PoE available as an option on supported Ethernet configurations.

RFID Event Workflow

Turn Each Tag Read into an Immediate Process Response

The RLI-8dBi can sit inside a vehicle, access or logistics workflow: receive a trigger, capture tag data, pass the event to the host and return an immediate response to the field.

01 Receive an external trigger

Start a read cycle from a loop detector, photoelectric sensor, PLC or another compatible control signal through either optocoupler input.

02 Validate RFID data in the host system

Send EPC, TID or user-memory data to the connected application for vehicle identification, access authorization, shipment tracking or process verification.

03 Return a physical response

Use either relay output to activate a compatible light, buzzer, gate signal or other checkpoint response defined by the integration.

Applications

Integrated RFID Reader Applications for Lanes, Gates and Checkpoints

The RLI-8dBi is strongest where the vehicle, asset or shipment follows a defined approach path and the reader position, trigger window and response logic can be validated.

RLI-8dBi integrated UHF RFID reader identifying a tagged vehicle at a controlled lane or parking entrance Vehicle Management

Vehicle Identification Lane

Identify tagged vehicles at parking, yard, customs or controlled-entry lanes and return the event to the connected access or vehicle-management system.

  • Defined vehicle approach direction
  • Host-side authorization or status check
  • Relay or gate response after validation
RLI-8dBi RFID reader identifying tagged personnel cards or assets at a controlled access checkpoint Access Control

Controlled Access Identification

Capture personnel-card, vehicle or asset identities at a controlled entrance and send the result to the host or access controller for further action.

  • Defined entrance or lane
  • Host- or controller-based authorization
  • Optional relay response to field equipment
RLI-8dBi integrated RFID reader capturing tagged pallets, containers or assets at a logistics gate or transfer point Logistics

Logistics Gate and Transfer Point

Capture tagged pallets, containers, bins or assets as they pass a warehouse gate, loading area or controlled transfer point.

  • Fixed and repeatable travel path
  • Automatic arrival or transfer record
  • WMS, middleware or local host connection

The RLI-8dBi is intended for controlled, directional checkpoints. For compact workstations, evaluate a lower-gain model; for wider or longer-range lanes, compare the 9 dBi and 12 dBi models. Final selection must be validated with the actual tag, lane width, speed and installation environment.

Read Performance

Up to 10 m UHF RFID Reading Under Defined Conditions

The stated 10 m read range is a typical maximum reference result, not a guaranteed working distance for every RFID tag, vehicle, asset or installation.

8 dBi Built-in circularly polarized antenna

The antenna and reader are tested as one integrated RF system.

Test Tag Reference tag and mounting condition

The typical maximum must be evaluated against the actual windshield, asset, pallet or object-mounted tag used in the project.

33 dBm Full RF output setting

The maximum reference distance uses full output power and must remain within regional operating requirements.

Actual performance varies with tag antenna size and sensitivity, mounting material, tag orientation, reader angle, object movement, nearby metal or liquid, multipath reflection and RF interference.

FAQ

RLI-8dBi Integrated UHF RFID Reader FAQ

What is integrated inside the RLI-8dBi?

The device combines a UHF RFID reader engine and a built-in 8 dBi circularly polarized antenna in one fixed enclosure, together with communication, input and relay-output connections.

Can the RLI-8dBi always read RFID tags from 10 meters?

No. Up to 10 m is a typical maximum under defined reference test conditions. Actual distance depends on tag design, windshield or object material, orientation, lane geometry, reader placement, regional settings and the RF environment.

Does the RLI-8dBi support PoE?

PoE is available as an option on supported RLI-8dBi Ethernet configurations. The final power and cable arrangement must be confirmed when ordering.

Which regional frequency versions are available?

The RF and antenna configuration can be customized for different regional requirements. Common versions include European 860–868 MHz and US 902–928 MHz; confirm the destination region before ordering.

Which serial baud rates are supported?

The supported baud rates are 38400, 57600 and 115200 bps.

How can the two inputs and two relay outputs be used?

The optocoupler inputs can receive external trigger signals. The relay outputs can return a result to compatible indicators, alarms, gate signals or other control circuits defined by the system integration.

Is the RLI-8dBi a complete RFID software solution?

No. It is integration-ready RFID hardware. Application logic, database processing, event filtering and workflow decisions are implemented by the connected host or customer software.

When should a different RLI antenna-gain model be considered?

Consider a lower-gain model for compact workstations or tighter read zones, and compare the 9 dBi or 12 dBi models for wider or longer-range lanes. The final choice should be based on the actual tag, lane and site test.
